Senior Director, Digital Marketing

We are looking for an energetic and strategic Senior Director of Digital Marketing to lead and grow Crux’s digital marketing team and service offerings. This role requires a dynamic leader with deep expertise across all core digital disciplines—paid media, SEO, analytics, web, and social—paired with the ability to be both a visionary strategist and a hands-on contributor.

As a senior leader within our fractional marketing agency, you will work across a diverse client base—from B2B to eCommerce to higher education and more—delivering integrated digital strategies that drive measurable business impact. You will serve as a trusted advisor to clients and internal CMOs, guide a team of specialists across multiple functional areas, and evolve our digital capabilities to meet future market needs.

Reporting to the SVP of Operations, you will play a critical role in both day-to-day campaign execution and long-term growth of the digital service line.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Team Leadership

  • Lead and mentor a team of digital specialists, fostering professional development and elevating the quality of work across all levels.
  • Oversee team workload, utilization, and project alignment in collaboration with traffic and account teams.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning by integrating industry best practices and emerging technologies into the team’s day-to-day execution and insights.

Strategy

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to clients and internal CMOs, helping define and execute multi-channel digital strategies.
  • Oversee the development, execution, and optimization of campaigns across SEO, paid media, social media, email and web development.
  • Act as primary contact for traditional media strategies and media plans as needed, including billboard, radio, TV and direct mail.
  • Oversee SEO/GEO strategies, including audits, keyword planning and technical performance tracking.
  • Ensure high-quality, on-time delivery of all digital projects, with a focus on measurable business outcomes.

Analytics

  • Lead the development of KPIs based on client business objectives and oversee performance measurement and reporting.
  • Partner with strategy and creative teams to integrate data and audience insights into the upfront planning and development of campaigns.
  • Ensure analytics play a proactive role in shaping marketing strategy—not just measuring outcomes—by embedding performance insights throughout the campaign lifecycle.

Growth & Innovation

  • Expand and evolve the digital service offerings to meet changing market and client needs.
  • Evaluate and implement new digital tools and platforms (e.g., HubSpot, AI tools, GA4, SEMrush) to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Liaise with external vendors and partners as needed to execute digital campaigns and initiatives.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by supporting digital scopes, proposals, and SOWs for prospective clients.

Internal Enablement

  • Lead collaboration efforts with cross-functional teams to craft integrated, insight-driven marketing campaigns.
  • Guide the team in using data to optimize CX and UX initiatives across all touchpoints and channels.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of experience in digital marketing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience overseeing digital strategy and execution across a portfolio of clients in an agency, consultancy or multi-client environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing digital teams across disciplines such as SEO, paid media, analytics, social and web.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing channels and tools, including SEO, PPC, paid social, email, GA4, HubSpot, SEMrush, Search Console and other key platforms.
  • Proven ability to manage and optimize marketing budgets with a focus on driving measurable ROI and performance outcomes for clients.
  • Highly analytical, proven ability to translate data into actionable insights and continuously optimize digital strategies based on results.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; adept at influencing internal teams, executive stakeholders and external clients.
  • Experience leading omnichannel marketing initiatives, scaling digital teams, or evolving service offerings in a fast-paced agency or startup environment.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on, proactive leadership style; comfortable balancing execution with vision.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills; capable of prioritizing and managing multiple initiatives across clients and industries.
